I’ve sometimes wondered if becoming an antiques dealer was in part genetic, as my great-grandfather Oscar owned a pawn shop in Jersey City, NJ in the early 19th century. But regardless of what started me on this path, being an antiques dealer is the best job I ever had . . . learning new things, meeting new people, the thrill of the hunt, the excitement of finding that special object. In the early 1990s, my focus was mostly on 19th century samplers and silhouettes. Over the years my eye developed and my tastes expanded. Textiles now include an earlier and a wider range of materials such as hooked and shirred rugs, appliquéed pieces, needlework, and accessories. I still treasure silhouettes, and now also include portraits, watercolors, and folk art. As well as early tin, mirrors in great frames, and painted smalls and furniture.
I participate in several shows a year, and actively maintain a website. I always enjoy hearing from other antiques enthusiasts, and never turn down an opportunity to talk about antiques. I am very excited to participate in the NHADA show this year, to see old friends and meet new ones. I hope you will stop by and say hello.
