Leon and Steven Weiss, Proprietors of Gemini Antiques Ltd., began collecting antique toys and mechanical banks at the tender age of eleven in 1968. By the time they were of college age (1975) it was a full-fledged family affair. Early on they met famous collectors such as Barney Barenholtz, Lloyd Ralston and Louis Hertz. Mentored by many and called the young twins by all.
Shortly after college graduation (1980), they started a business and called it Gemini Antiques Ltd. Aptly named because they are twins and are born in the Gemini astrological sign. The early years consisted of doing antique toy shows, Brimfield three times a year and exhibiting at Sanford Smiths, Fall Antiques Show at the Pier, etc. From 1985-1995, they maintained a gallery on Madison Avenue. They focused on American Antique Toys and Banks and expanded into American Folk Art.
Both Leon and Steven have been active members of The Mechanical Bank Collectors of America, The Still Bank Collectors of America, and the Antique Toy Collectors of America since the mid 1980’s to early 1990’s. Leon was the President of the Mechanical Bank Collectors of America from 2001-2003. The Weiss twins have been attending The New Hampshire Dealers Show since the late 1980’s and been members of the NHADA for about ten years. They are thrilled to have been selected to exhibit in the 2023 show.
